Dr. Saruk received his MD from Rush University Medical College in Chicago. After completing his internship at Columbia and a residency in pathology and a fellowship in dermatopathology at Yale University, Dr Saruk attended the University of Pennsylvania for his dermatology residency.
Prior to establishing a private practice, Dr. Saruk was assistant professor of dermatology and pathology at the University of Pittsburgh, where he established the University's Pigmented Lesion Clinic, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma and related disorders.
Currently Dr. Saruk is a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his clinical teaching responsibilities at Penn, Dr. Saruk is also an active participant in the dermatologic training of primary care physicians at Christiana Care Health System.
An innovator, with a profound commitment to his field, Dr. Saruk was the first to bring Mohs Micrographic Surgery to Delaware over a decade ago. The treatment of skin cancer and the science of dermatopathology are a particular interest. He treats many skin cancers, frequently employing the Mohs Surgery procedure (for further details, click on Mohs Surgery under Our Services).
He was also the first in the state to offer Narrow Band UVB, phototherapy services, which have become the standard of treatment for a variety of hard-to-treat disorders, including psoriasis.
Dr. Saruk also participates in clinical trials of new investigational and already licensed medications for the pharmaceutical industry. He is a consultant to numerous drug companies. and a sought-after national lecturer. (For more information about clinical trials see Our Research Studies)
Dr. Saruk is board certified in anatomic pathology and dermatopathology as well as dermatology. He has authored numerous publications and is the co-author of a pathology text. Dr. Saruk is also a member of numerous medical organizations, including fellowship in the American Academy of Dermatology, the US and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society of Dermatopathology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society for Mohs Surgery. To ensure that his skills and knowledge are absolutely current, Dr. Saruk voluntarily sought and was awarded re-certification by the American Board of Dermatology.
Recently voted "Attending Physician of the Year", for the Durhing Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Dermatology, Dr. Saruk continues to take pride and pleasure in mentoring dermatology residents. Other accolades include one of the "Top Docs" in Delaware Today, as well as inclusion in Who's Who in Healthcare for his role as a physician and educator.
Dr. Saruk has served as President of the Delaware Academy of Dermatology.
