DOT THERAPY Laser Skin Rejuvenation
DOT Therapy (Dermal Optical Thermolysis) is an innovative, new laser procedure, which may restore your skin's youthful appearance. It is designed to improve the skin's texture and tone and to fight fine lines, deep wrinkles, and acne scars. Because DOT Therapy delivers desired outcomes with minimal downtime, it is rapidly replacing traditional laser skin resurfacing as the treatment of choice for mild to moderate signs of photo damage and aging skin. While the aging process cannot be stopped, with proper care, you can maintain your new look for many years.
How Does it Work
During the procedure, your DVDG Continuum of Care™ provider will apply a pattern of tiny scanned pulses of laser energy to your skin. The DOT Therapy laser precisely creates thousands of microscopic holes (DOTs), which induce immediate skin tightening and stimulate new collagen growth. Unlike older laser technology, DOT Therapy leaves islands of healthy tissue surrounding the microscopic DOTs. This enables your skin to heal more rapidly. Afterward, your skin will be red, and there will be some temporary discomfort similar to a sunburn. You may also experience some peeling after about three or four days. In most cases, your skin will return to its normal appearance in about five to seven days.
Your comfort during the procedure is paramount. You will receive topical anesthetics, and those who are particularly fearful may request a mild sedative. ( Although, most of our patients do just fine without it.) Patients who receive a sedative must have a driver for the ride home. At the conclusion of your treatment, cold compresses and a cooling fan will help relieve any discomfort. Once at home, you will apply a hydrating lotion to keep our skin moist and to promote healing. Most people are able to resume wearing make up after about three days. To avoid any irritation, we strongly recommend Jane Iredale cosmetics following any procedure. If you are not already familiar with Jane Iredale, ask our staff for guidance.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
As with everything else in dermatology, results vary from patient to patient. Many people are delighted with the effects of just a single treatment. However, persons with severe wrinkling or deep acne scars may benefit from a series of treatments spaced about one month apart. During your cosmetic consultation you will learn more about how many DOT procedures may be right for you.
