Out With 15 and in with 30

Remember when the recommendation for daily sun protection was a product with SPF 15?   Not anymore. Today the
AAD is calling for use of UVA/UVB sunscreens providing SPF 30 -- every day.

As much as 90 percent of skin aging is caused by sun exposure, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Supporting this is research published by the Annals of Internal Medicine, which found that people who used sunscreen regularly were 24 percent less likely to show increased signs of aging. To avoid damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays, “the American Academy of Dermatology recommends you use at least SPF 30 on a daily basis and SPF 50 or higher if you’re planning an outdoor activity. sports.”
