Find out how this simple injectable could take years off your appearance.
It’s never too late to give your appearance a nice refresher or boost. Maybe you’ve been noticing certain lines and wrinkle creeping in and you want to nip the problem in the bud now. If so, our Wilmington, DE dermatologist Dr. Michael Saruk has you covered. There is a simple way to get younger-looking skin and it only takes a couple of minutes.
What is Botox?
Most people have heard about Botox, a treatment that uses a purified form of a neurotoxin that temporarily stops certain muscles of the face from contracting. Since the muscles don’t contract it smooths away those lines and wrinkles that you notice when you make facial expressions such as smiling or squinting.
Botox is great for targeting these dynamic wrinkles and can reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and lines around the mouth and chin. Take a moment to smile in the mirror: the wrinkles that appear when you smile are the ones that Botox can address.
What are the benefits of getting Botox?
If you are interested in getting cosmetic dermatology in Wilmington, DE, then chances are good that you are considering whether Botox might be able to give you the results you want. Here are just some of the benefits you’ll enjoy if you choose to get Botox,
Most people lead busy lives and don’t have time to sit in the office for hours, particularly for elective treatments; however, it only takes a few minutes for our Wilmington, DE, skin doctor to administer Botox so you’ll be in and out of the office.
It’s relatively painless
While the idea of needles may not make anyone too happy, these aren’t the needles that you might recognize from getting the flu shot each year or from giving blood. These needles are ultra-thin, so they are barely noticeable when they are administered (you may experience a slight but temporary stinging sensation).
No recovery time
There is no downtime with this treatment. You can even go right back to your normal routine immediately after. Side effects are very minimal and include some redness or tenderness near the injection sites, but they normally subside within a few hours.
You can keep getting Botox
Do you love your new look? If so, you may be a little disappointed to hear that results only last about between three and six months; however, not to worry. You can continue to get maintenance treatments every so often to keep your appearance looking fresh.
Are you interested in getting Botox to improve your skin and boost your confidence? If so, let our Wilmington, DE, skin care specialist help you meet your goals. Call Delaware Valley Dermatology Group today and let us know that you are interested in getting Botox treatment.
Smooth away fine lines and wrinkles and take years off your skin.
We think everyone would love to turn on the news and hear that someone has discovered the Foundation of Youth. Of course, while this scenario may be far from possible, there are more practical and realistic ways to improve the youthfulness of your skin. Our Wilmington, DE, dermatologist Dr. Michael Saruk offers a variety of dermal fillers, a simple treatment that can help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and have you feeling younger in minutes.
What are dermal fillers?
This simple facial rejuvenation treatment is a great way to freshen the skin and to painlessly eliminate early signs of aging. Dermal fillers are a special injectable that when administered into the skin smooths away lines and wrinkles and increases skin’s firmness and fullness, as loss of skin’s volume occurs as we age. In some cases, dermal fillers may even be used to achieve fullness in the lips.
A major benefit to getting dermal fillers is that there is no downtime. We know that keeping your skin looking youthful and healthy is important but that there are a lot of people who don’t want to turn to more invasive measures to do it. In this case, dermal fillers may be right for you. It only takes a couple of minutes to administer these thin needles into the skin and you can go right back to your routine immediately after.
Which dermal filler is right for me?
Here in Wilmington, DE, our skin doctor offers a variety of dermal fillers to meet everyone’s individual and unique needs. We will first sit down with you to discuss your treatment goals and what issues you are looking to fix. From there, we will create your custom dermal filler treatment plan. In some cases, dermal fillers may be used in conjunction with other treatment options to achieve the results you want.
The dermal fillers we offer include:
- Juvederm Voluma®
- Restylane Lyft®
- Restylane Silk®
While these fillers offer a lot of the same benefits, some will last longer than others. Restylane is also the only dermal filler that can plump up lips. Restylane and Juvederm are both made up of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring within the body and helps gives skin its fullness. As we get older our bodies do not produce as much hyaluronic acid, causing our skin to hollow and cave in certain areas. These dermal fillers can help fill out these hollow areas and plump up the skin.
If you want to refresh your appearance and don’t want to turn to more aggressive cosmetic treatment, then dermal fillers may be just what you need to get younger results quickly. Call Delaware Valley Dermatology Group in Wilmington, DE, to learn more about how dermal fillers can help you.
Cosmetic dermatology has grown in popularity as more and more patients are seeking creative and modern treatments to rejuvenate and restore the beauty of their skin. Explore the various dermatology options available at Delaware Valley Dermatology Group in Wilmington, DE.
Botox and Cosmetic (Dermal) Fillers
As the skin ages, especially when exposed to the suns rays for many years, wrinkles, lines, and creases may start to appear. They are caused by a loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin. Dermatologists use Botox to freeze the muscles that cause wrinkles and dermal fillers replenish the smoothness and plumpness of the skin. Two of the most popular dermal fillers available at Delaware Valley Dermatology Group are Juvederm and Restylane.
Laser Treatments for the Skin
Laser rejuvenation therapy helps tighten and tone the skin using pulses of energy. It can also help lessen the appearance of scars, dark marks, and lines in the skin. One popular rejuvenation treatment offered at Delaware Valley Dermatology in Wilmington is called DOT (Dermal Optical Thermolysis). A treatment called Lutronic INFINI uses microneedling technology to send radiofrequency energy waves through the skin layers to reduce sagging and wrinkles. Patients can get a “facelift” without the need for surgery with a laser treatment called Alma Clear Lift.
Lasers are also used to remove hairs in unwanted places, including the chin, neck, arms, and legs. The results of a series of laser sessions can lead to permanent hair removal in targeted areas—no more shaving or waxing.
In some cases, a patient’s skin needs resurfacing so that fresher, healthier, more even-toned skin can emerge. Chemical peels deeply exfoliate the top layers of skin that have become damaged by the sun and the natural process of aging. Peels available include Salicylic and Glycolic Continuum of Care Express Peels, and a treatment called VI Peel for darker skin tones.

It's different from aesthetic dermatology
Aesthetic dermatology takes care of how your skin looks, particularly as it ages. Medical dermatology, however, deals with keeping your skin healthy and treating it if problems arise. Dr. Saruk calls this the Continuum of Care, and patients of all ages and lifestyles find it beneficial Delaware Valley Dermatology Group.
Specifically, medical dermatology involves keeping the largest organ of your body--your skin--intact, well-vascularized and innervated, and doing what it should do. Your skin is responsible for your personal appearance, provides a barrier to injury and infection, regulates your temperature and perceives things such as pain, pressure and more. In short, your skin interfaces with the outside world. So you need to keep it healthy.
Unfortunately, both acute and chronic problems interfere with your skin's optimal functioning and your overall health and well-being. So Dr. Saruk and his team examine for, diagnose and treat a wide variety of skin conditions, including:
- Rashes from allergies and insect/arthropod bites
- Vitiligo (a pigment disorder)
- Skin cancer
Treating skin problems
You know your skin best. As such, you should perform a self-exam at home every month after the age of 40, noting changes in color, mole shape and texture and more. Then, you should see Dr. Saruk and his team annually for a visual inspection of your skin. This vigilance helps keep ahead of skin cancer, a potentially deadly problem affecting tens of thousands of American adults annually.
If you do have a problem such as skin cancer, your dermatologist at Wilmington can take you from the diagnostic stages, including on-site biopsy and lab analysis, to removal and follow-up. Dr. Saruk is fully qualified on the Mohs Micrographic Surgery technique which is minimally invasive and tissue sparing.
For other skin conditions, such as warts and psoriasis, he offers treatment with the precise Xtrac laser. This innovative instrument removes lesions anywhere on the body, including difficult to access areas such as behind the knees. Quick and painless, these laser treatments produce amazing results quickly and painlessly in qualified patients.

Shaving, plucking and waxing aren't the only ways to deal with unwanted hair. Laser hair removal gets rid of hairs painlessly and offers long-term results. Our Wilmington, DE, dermatologist, Dr. Michael Saruk of Delaware Valley Dermatology Group, LLC, discusses the laser hair removal process.
How does laser hair removal work?
Pigments in your hair give it its color. Short bursts of laser light heat the pigment, which damages your hair follicles and prevents hair from growing. Because laser light precisely targets the hairs, it doesn't damage your skin. Laser treatments often permanently prevent hair from growing, although some regrowth may occur. Regrowth can be easily managed with follow-up treatments in our office.
Is laser hair removal treatment painful?
If you don't like the pain of plucking or waxing, laser hair removal may be a good option for you. Although you'll probably experience a slight stinging sensation as the light penetrates the hair pigments, most people don't consider treatments to be painful. Before your treatment begins, you'll be given a pair of goggles, and a cooling gel will be applied to protect your skin and increase your comfort. Your skin may look a little red after your hair removal session, but that sunburned appearance will only last a day or two. Cold compresses can help decrease redness and warmth.
How many sessions will I need?
Three to seven sessions are generally needed to remove all of the hair from a particular part of your body. The length of time you'll spend in our Wilmington office depends on the amount of hair to be removed. Larger, hairier areas will require longer appointments. You'll need to avoid plucking or waxing your hairs for at least six weeks before your treatment session.
Results won't be immediately noticeable, as it usually takes a few weeks for your hair to fall out after treatment. Once it's gone, new hairs won't replace it.
What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal can be used to remove hair from many areas of the body, including:
- The upper lip
- Bikini line
