Well, it's been along time coming, but we have finally bitten the bullet and moved into the 21st century. We went live with the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system on February 1. Word was that the transition would be disruptive difficult, and sometimes maddening - and it has been. Nonetheless, the ultimate benefit to both providers and patients are obvious. We want to sincerely apologize to all of you who have had extended wait times as we adjust to this new system. There's just no getting around the fact that it takes a lot longer to click through all of those screens during the patient visit than to take notes and then dictate and finalize charts after patient hours. You just can't do that with EHR and it won't surprise any of you who has ever worked with a computer, that glitches do arise. It will get better. We've been assured of that and it has become our promise to both you and ourselves. We could move things along faster, but not without compromising patient care. We want to make sure that our focus stay on you and not on the laptop that has suddenly inserted itself into the relationship between provider and patient. So please bear with us a little longer as we complete this transition over the next few months. Someday in the not too distant future the system will have become second nature and we will wonder how we ever managed without it.

Recent studies have shown that weekly exposure to the UV lights used in nail salons to dry and cure your mani and pedi may offer similar cancer risks to tanning beds. We strongly recommend that you avoid the UV dryers and allow your nails to dry naturally. It is also possible in some salons to turn off the lights and only use the fans to help speed drying. Ask. And at a minimum bring your own 30+ sunscreen to your salon and ask that it be applied instead of lotion at the end of your service. Please don't take unncessary risks with the your health.

	January 2012 Update

Since everybody's complexion needs a little help mid-winter, we will be running a special on the VI Peel in February. Our VI Peel is usually $365.00, but in February we will make it available to you for $275.00. Call now to book your February appointment because quantities are limited at this price.

Hard to believe the month is nearly over and it feels as if it just began. Administratively, we have been preoccupied with preparation for the swithchover from paper charts to electronic health records (EHR) -- a much more complicated and challenging endeavor than anyone, including we, would have imagined. Nonetheless, plans are proceeding apace and we will start feeling the changes at the end of the month. It will be awhile before we are all acclimated to the new way of doing things, so please bear with us. It's like lots of things in medicine; not so great when you're going through it, but so worth it in the end. Also, EHR will require more hands, so we have hired three fresh new faces. Please welcome, Mallorie Toulson, Shara Smith and Cassandra Fonseca. They're great hires and we're delighted to have them join us.

On other fronts: We're very pleased to being joing the Delaware Today family. Look for us beginning in the February issue, just out this week. Tell us what you think of the ad. We love to hear from you. Speaking of which, you have told us what you thought of our medical assistants wearing white and in response to your negative thoughts on the subject, the staff will soon be wearing color. They're so excited, they are actually choosing different shades for fall/winter and and spring/summer. I'm just encouraging them to please make sure they don't clash with our great new decor. We look better and better every week and are very proud to be able to welcome you to our fresh and pretty offices. Never a dull moment. More next month.

	December 2011

Oh my gosh! Did we ever have a great time at our Aesthetic Services Open House. It was so nice of folks to actually thank me for inviting them. No need. I had a really wonderful evening too. The food was fabulous thanks to Food For Thought Caterers and everyone loved all the raffles and prizes. Went off without a hitch except there was no music. I don't know about you, but I don't think it's really a party without music. Actually, we did have music, but the providers said they had some difficulty hearing our guest's questions with the music on. Seems we had a technical difficulty and couldn't turn it down enough to be the great background music we had intended. Well, you know, not being able to hear our guests/patients is anathema around here. We're all about listening and being responsive. So, we had to manage without. But no one seemed to care, except me. And, well, I don't count.

What does matter is that everyone had the the questions answered and left here knowing a great deal more than when they came in. We raffled off a VI-Peel to one lucky guest, and boy, was she happy about that. Ladies had their faces made-up, booked their pre-holiday appointments at great rates and went out of here looking like a million bucks. The wine flowed and so did the laughter. Just a great night. If you missed it, don't worry. We will plan another. I am thinking, perhaps, the middle of March, but don't hold me to the time just yet.

On another subject: We are getting ready to launch our Facebook page, So you can check back here and I'll let you know when i'ts up. As always, I have lots to say and share with you from Dr. Saruk and Ms. Fitzpatrick. Can't wait to get started.

And finally announcing LaViv®, we are pleased to let you know that DVDG is the only practice in Delaware certified to provide LaViv, the first-ever FDA-approved technique for growing your own collagen-producing cells to fill those deep parentheses (the nasolabial folds) that develop as we get older and that make us look so tired. Up till now Juvederm® had always done the trick beautifully -- and still does --but now those who are uncomfortable injecting something into their faces can relax and look fresher as the only thing going into your body is your very own cells. Neat trick, huh, We think so. We'll be happy to tell you all about it.

That's it for now. Until next time... Be well. Look Good.
